The end of the Erasmus+ project National Fitness Day for Europe and its legacy: the #BEACTIVE DAY campaign

After two years, the National Fitness Day for Europe project, an Erasmus+ funded action coordinated by EuropeActive, has been successfully completed.

The National Fitness Day for Europe (NFDEU) project has supported the further growth of the European Week of Sport (EWoS), the European Commission main initiative to promote physical activity, through the establishment of National Fitness Day campaigns across Europe. Notwithstanding the exceptional challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic the project has been a stellar success. The results speak for themselves:  overall, during its 2-year duration, 3.818.590 people were physically active in the framework of the projects activities. In total, 7.960 events were organised by the project partners in the UK, Ireland, Greece, Portugal, Georgia, the Republic of North Macedonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Ukraine.

Part of the project’s outcomes is a rebranding of National Fitness Day for Europe to #BEACTIVE DAY. This rebranding keeps the proven success formula of the National Fitness Day concept but aligns it better with the European Week of Sport #BEACTIVE messaging and the wide range and diversity of activities taking place and organisations involved in the campaign.  Together with the project partners EuropeActive is already looking at the 2022 edition and is ready to build further on the success of the project.
